I have been a photographer for almost as long as I can remember, having saved my pocket money for my first camera at the age of 8 or 9. I became seriously interested in photography back in 1976 when I bought my first SLR. Over the years since I have applied my photographic skills to my professional work in education. Photography has proved to be an all-consuming pastime too. Although my original degrees are in Biological Sciences, my Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Technology included a distinction in Print Design which has also provided an additional useful link with my photography.
After I took early retirement 2005 following a period of ill health I went back to university to study Art History. These studies awoke an interest in Modern Art (particularly that of the late 20th Century) and an additional interest in the interface between photography and art.
I have had several personal exhibitions along the way, including:
Landscape and Light (Byre Theatre, St Andrews) 2005
River of Light (Dundee Botanic Garden) 2007
Under Western Skies (Dundee Botanic Garden) 2009
Off the Wall (Dundee Botanic Garden) 2013
Off the Wall (Fife Fotospace) 2013
Two Old Fellows (Jointly with Neil Scott FRPS, at Discovery Point Dundee) 2015
PhotoArt 2019, A solo exhibition which was again held in Discovery Point followed by Fife Photospace.
Nowadays I describe myself as a creative digital photographer. I am a member of the Royal Photographic Society and have been awarded a Fellowship (FRPS), the Society's highest honour.
I enjoy applying my interest in modern art to my photographic work. I also greatly enjoy using Photoshop creatively to make new digital art, including still-life work with layers of texture. Often my images are much, much simpler to create.
I have had many works accepted for exhibition worldwide and have won several major awards. Alongside my FRPS I have also been awarded an EFIAP award (Excellence - Fedération Internationale de l’Art Photographique) and a DPAGB (Distinction of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. Today I often give Zoom presentations about the links between photography and art, and also on abstract photography.
I enjoy creating new artistic work just for the fun or creating it. To see some of this work please visit my website (www.stanfarrowphotography.co.uk) or my Facebook page.
